Introduction to Status of Women in India

In the Vedic period, women had a very respectable place in India. They were worshiped like goddesses. But, later the time came when things changed. Our society has become male-dominated. Women were not given the respect they deserved. He was given many responsibilities but no respect at all. They were not allowed to move freely. Generally speaking, they were not allowed to share or express their views. There is a contradiction in the status of women in our Indian society. The reason for this is that on one hand women are worshiped and they are respected by calling them feminine power. So on the other hand woman is seen as a poor person.

Women's problems in India

Women in India have been exploited for hundreds of years. Child marriage, female feticide, dowry system, sati system, maid service in temples, etc. made their condition much worse. A widow was not allowed to lead a normal life in the society. A woman did not have the right to go beyond the wishes of her family. In this country where women are worshiped as goddesses, on the other hand they are also considered weak. Women were also abused by many people in the society due to their wrong attitude. Even today in many houses the boy is considered as the lamp of the dynasty and the girl is considered as a burden. In ancient times people used to understand that the girl would go away after getting married and the boys would bring glory to the family and carry forward the line age.

Women are considered as alien wealth. There is also discrimination between boys and girls. Boys have freedom in every matter and they have more right over education. Girls are taught to do household chores. Then the thinking of the people was that what will the girls do by reading and writing, they have to get married and take care of the kitchen.

Current status of women

But, now time is changing. We have seen substantial development in the status of women in India. They are free to study and choose their career. She is leading an independent life. We see women doctors, engineers, scientists, pilots, business heads, teachers, etc. Women have also reached the positions of President and Prime Minister. She has proved that she can do better in all fields. They are suitable at home as well as in offices. In some areas, women have proved themselves to be more capable than men. India's daughter Kalpana Chawla had illuminated the name of India by becoming an astronaut. Mother Teresa did many things for the progress of the society. He did countless works for the poor and needy, he is an example. Sarojini Naidu was the first woman governor of the country. He had worked as a freedom fighter.

The credit for this revolution goes to education only. It has changed the narrow mindset of the people. It has opened the closed eyes of the people. It has shown them what is happening around the world. Now society cannot run on the basis of men only. Contribution of women is also necessary for a developed society. In ancient times women were not given their due place. Women had to endure many atrocities to maintain relationships and keep the family comfortable. Even at home, girls were not given equal rights as boys.

Conclusion

If there is no development of women, then there will definitely be a question mark in the progress of the country. Today women are educated and capable of taking every decision on their own. The government has also done many works for the advancement of women. Modi government has run successful campaigns like Beti Bachao and Beti Padhao. Respecting and protecting women is the ancient culture of India. The Constitution of India gives equal status to men and women. Therefore no one has the right to discriminate between them (male and female). Both have equal right to be socially and economically independent.
