Introduction of Republic Day

Since the end of British rule in India, two special festivals are organized here - Independence Day and Republic Day. We celebrate them as national festivals. The festival of 15 August is celebrated to celebrate the independence of the country, while 26 January is celebrated to commemorate the establishment of the republic in the country. Republic Day is an annual National festival in India. It is celebrated on 26th day of January every year.

Importance of Republic Day

This day is of utmost significance for all the citizens of India. About 30 months after attaining independence, India became a sovereign republican democratic country on January 26, 1950. Truly, Republic Day is one of the most important national festival for us. This is our republic festival and this is the holy day of pride and self-respect of our democracy, India.

Celebration of republic day 2022 in India

The greatest annual event of the country is the Republic Day Parade held all over India, and specially at New Delhi. The President of India takes the salute at the colorful and spectacular march-past. The distinguished soldiers of all the three wings (Army, Navy, and Air Force) of the armed forces take part in the parade. Parade displays various tanks, big guns and other heavy weapons of war. Police and the N.C.C cadets join the parade. The President of India takes the salute.

These celebrations display the nation's military strength. The advances, sophisticated and powerful weapons of war in our possession are displayed with great enthusiasm. A top political leader from a foreign country is invited to be the chief guest on the occasion of Republic day. He shares the dais with the President and the Prime Minister. The grand pageants also display India's technological, scientific, agricultural, and cultural development. All the states take part in the function. School-children also take part in this parade.

Activities on Republic Day by People

On this day, boys and girls of schools and colleges march and sing our National Song, 'Jana Gana Mana”. It is not the end, in the evening, the Raisina Hill, where the Rashtrapati Bhavan is situated, is illuminated which gathers crowd as a glittering sight.

It is on Republic Day that bravery awards for children are announced; and the proud winners are brought into the limelight during the parade. The Government also declares the 'Padma' awards to distinguished citizens and 'Veer Chakra' awards to valiant soldiers. The highest civilian award is 'Bharat Ratna', which is given for the most significant contribution to the nation. Sometimes no one is found to be great enough to claim this award.

Proud Moment For India on this Day

Every Indian's should proud that on the occasion of the 73rd Republic Day of India, in 2022. Due to the spike in Covid-19 cases, there will also be no chief minister who will be gracing the event like last year. On this day, the President hoists the flag at Rajpath, New Delhi. Ceremonious parades showcase India’s defence, cultural abilities, cultural and social heritage. The president of India, who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Armed Forces, takes the salute. Every year, the President distributes Padma Awards to the civilians of India, which is the second-highest civilian award in India after Bharat Ratna.
