Republic Day is celebrated in India on 26th day of January every year.

India became an Independent Nation on 15th August, 1947. On 26th January, 1950 India was formerly declared Republic. In Republic, the supreme power is held not by a monarch, but by the elected representatives of the people, along with an elected President. So this day is celebrated as the Republic Day. It is a National holiday.

Republic day is a National festival, which is celebrated on 26th January every year in India. It is known as 'Gantantra Diwas” in Hindi.

India is officially known as 'Republic of India”. India is a country where the elected representatives of the people govern the country. We have the right to vote and the power to choose our government. We are proud of our fundamentals rights. Democracy is a very important part of the Constitution of India. Today we have a strong democracy. India has a fair and independent judicial system. Republic Day is a National holiday in India.

The Indian tri-colour flag is hoisted by the President of India at Rajpath, New Delhi. The flag hoisting ceremony is followed by the Republic day Parade. The India Army, Navy and Air Force participate in the parade. The flag hoisting ceremony is held all over the country in schools, colleges, universities and societies. Various cultural programmes are also held at various places. People of all caste and creed celebrate the festival together.

In the morning there is a flag hoisting ceremony. We remember the freedom fighters who gave us freedom. It is because of them that we are enjoying our freedom today. Various speakers urge the people to remain united and respect their country. The programme comes to an end when everyone stands up to sing the National Anthem.

In Delhi, on the occasion of Republic day, a parade is held every year on Rajpath where contingents of armed forces march, latest weapons are displayed. Different states depicting their culture and progress are taken out. People from all over the country come to witness this parade. The National flag is flown a top in all government offices and buildings. At night the Government offices and the President's house are illuminated.

India became a democratic country on 26th January, 1950. On this day, the constitution of India was officially adopted. The chief architect of the Constitution of India was Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of Independent India, took the oath for office on this day in 1950. Our first President gave a speech that was greeted warmly by the citizens of India.

The 73rd Republic day celebration ceremony in India was held on 26th January, 2022. Due to the spike in Covid-19 cases, there will also be no chief minister who will be gracing the event like last year. On this day, the President hoists the flag at Rajpath, New Delhi. Ceremonious parades showcase India’s defence, cultural abilities, cultural and social heritage. The president of India, who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Armed Forces, takes the salute. Every year, the President distributes Padma Awards to the civilians of India, which is the second-highest civilian award in India after Bharat Ratna. It was a moment of respect and self-esteem for the Indians.
